This is what I tell folks when they ask why my xylophone has two neck thingies:

Hey Greg!

I clicked on the link you posted, and said "Hey! That's Greg Vincent--the guy who does CAKE's pedal steel work!" and then I realized that you were also the one who posted the video. *derp*

I didn't grow up listening to country, but my brother introduced me to CAKE when I was 16, so you were basically my first exposure to pedal steel. I couldn't describe the magical sounds you were making on those songs, but I knew I loved it.

Well, 9 years later, and some more exposure to country and Robert Randolph, I've finally decided that pedal steel is something I have to try! I've been aching to learn She'll Come Back To Me, Mexico, and Walk On By!

Thanks for the inspiration.

It might be that you have four CAKE platinum/gold/whatever dealios on your wall. I also saw you guys perform in Feb 2012 at the Palladium, and I was reasonably close to the stage.
My Carter Starter arrived yesterday, so tonight I get to set it up and get started!

Greg I love Cake.. was at one day of Bottlerock this past year in Napa when they played... but they don't carry the steel player!?!?

:whoa:

Anyways.. bad ass band... always have been a fan but that was maybe my favorite set I saw last year of any band I saw. Hope they are still draping some steel on tunes... I don't have the new album yet.

Keep on keeping on! That is a great thing you got going there!

Thanks Josh! Glad to hear you're a CAKE fan! They are great musicians --true PLAYERS.

They don't use steel on enough songs to justify bringing a steel player along on tour. I play gigs with them whenever I'm close to them or they're close to me, though.

And the new album has a song with steel!

Well Patrick, by "new album" I figured Josh meant their latest album, Showroom of Compassion, which has actually been out for quite a while. Not sure what the plans are for another release.
