Cover of "Revelation", a blues by Robben Ford

Post by Mike Neer »

Actually, it was written by Yellowjackets' leader, Russ Ferrante.

I love this simple tune and it is a joy to play. Recorded on my Clinesmith D-10 through a Digitech RP1000 and Sano 212R tube amp (my favorite combination lately). It is a custom patch with a 57 Fender Deluxe model. I played all instruments and used loops from the Soul Jazz set from BigFish Audio.

I posted it earlier but felt it was too long and not well-mixed. So, here is a shorter version. Recorded late last night in about 2 hours. Would love to play this with Steve Cunningham.

Nice job, Mike. Love the singing tone! I can tell you're having fun with your new guitar. I saw Robben Ford a few weeks ago, one of my favorites.

Mike, This is a fun thing to wake up to. Those twinned parts reminded me of some of Cannonball Adderly Quintet's horn intervals. Nice tone from the rig, too. I used to own a 1-12 Sano amp. What kind of settings were you using on the RP1000? I've been trying to get a really sustained, dirty tone similar to what some of the Sacred Steel players are using, and your tone on this is close to some of these I've heard. I keep thinking there is some compression involved.
I like both versions. The 2nd one does make a more concise statement.
I always enjoy your postings, because there is so much there to chew on. Thank you.

That's beautiful. Has a real nice "Sacred Steel" vibe. Nice to hear backing instruments too. I heard you have a record in the works. Is this possibly a teaser for what you'll be creating?

Hi Myk, thanks. I am getting ideas together for a record, but this was just sort of an impromptu recording for my own enjoyment and maybe somewhat exploratory. I haven't played this style in a long time and my chops in this style are not up to par, especially in C6.

Just superb Mike. Funny thing I was just listening to Robben's take on this tune today at work. In fact, that whole CD, Talk to Your Daughter, is just killer.

Very Sacred Steelish.......and in C6? If so, this is great "advertising" for C6. Beautiful playing.

On my 4th listening.

Stephen, you can play anything on C6, just have to put in a little work.
