Hello, Bob. Yes, I am playing steel on Tarwater's "From The Heart" album, and most of Pinto Bennett's albums. I still play, mostly studio work, although some bar gigs. I was in the original Tarwater Band in the 70's. We had a wonderful reunion concert this past summer in Boise/Mt Home, Idaho. |

I remember Tarwater often played at the Cowboy bar in Jackson during the late 70's. Seem to recall Mickey Wells paying steel with them at one time, but he might've just been sitting in. |

Yes, Mickey Wells took over for me after I left to go get a "real" job. (LOL). Those were fun times at the Cowboy Bar. Dean, that was probable Buck Ramsey you met at Pooties. He lives in Spicewood, TX now. I am playing a lot now in Boise, but I don't travel much anymore. But with the advent of digital recordings, you don't need to travel to do studio work. You can hear some of my latest work for Mary Cutrufello at http://marycutrufello.com, cuts 1, 2, and 4. Mary did her parts in St. Paul, MN, I did mine here in Boise, ID, and drums and production were done in Austin, TX. What a world. |

Mickey had either his A or B pedal on his right knee so there was a lot of right knee action when he played. He was one of many good steel players that played the Cowboy and the other bars in Jackson in the late 70s. Jake, nowadays do you ever gig with Boyd Wilson in Boise? I think he lives there - he was another one of the fine musicians that was in and out of Jackson WY a lot in those days. |

Yes. I play regularly with Boyd in a band called Joshua Tree, a Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris tribute band. |

That's how my friend Buck affectionately refers to it...
Yes, let me know if you're in the area. Big bash in Boise Apr 24-26: Tarwater, Pinto Bennett and the Famous Motel Cowboys, Kip Attaway, Muzzie Braun, the list goes on. Several Nashville pickers will be there. |
