After listening to Jerry Byrd for a number of years, I used to cogitate what it might sound like if he did the same SONG........with a different artist; or, in other words, a second recording of the same song. I couldn't imagine how he might alter the original record in any way and still make it as pretty as the first.

I finally got my chance when I discovered that in addition to Ernie Lee's "You Can't Pick A Rose in December".......Jerry also played on Ken Marvins' recording of that same tune.

Jerry played Kalima Waltz on his early 78 rpm Mercury record and later, once again on one of his LP's. The two songs were totally different. If my memory serves me correctly, the second tune was played in his Diatonic tuning.

The same with Jerry's "Steelin' the Blues" on Mercury and when I heard him play it with Ernie Lee on a live radio show........totally different.

Do you too, find these different interpretations to of any special interest?

Ray, I can't imagine any good musician,(in Jerry's case.Great musician.) recording a song the same way twice.
