Any one watch the Dale Watson, show on Austin city limits Saturday night? Anyone know who the steel player was? He had a very unusual style of playjng, but was really good. Anyone know his name.

Don Pawlak plays Pedal Steel for Dale Watson. He always sounds great on his old Sho Bud Super Pro. I think he's playin' through a Webb amp. I wish I would have caught this, I'll have to see if I can find it in the Austin City Limit archives.

Joe do you know where Jason is from? I think there was a Jason in Orlando when I worked at Church St. Sta.
I saw him once in Pa. with the Wheel but I didn't get a chance to talk to him. Just wondering if its the same guy.

Jason Roberts is a Central Texas native, and Johnny Gimble is his great-uncle.

Jason Roberts is leaving Asleep at the Wheel at the end of February to start his own band.

I like the "Wheel" with him in it but who can fault a guy with his talent to move on and do his own thing. Ray will find a replacement,he always does.

Ray has a bunch of solo projects going, as well as other local business interests. I was always assuming Jason would take over leadership of the Wheel as the start of his own career, so I was somewhat surprised when I heard last month that he was forming his own band. Elizabeth McQueen is also departing soon, if she hasn't already. So the face of the group is changing.

Just to note that Ray Benson, a "nice" Jewish boy from Philadelphia Laughing, has kept a successful western swing band continuously working full-time, recording, and winning awards longer than Bob Wills, Johnnie Lee Wills, Tex Williams, Spade Cooley, Leon McAuliffe, or anyone else you can name. Amazing. You go, Ray!! Smile

I had the opportunity to work with Jason last Wed, 5 Feb in AZ for a video and he is a class individual. Great player and singer. It was a lot of fun.
Class guy.
