I stumbled into an old Sierra S-10 5 x 2 on a "Brads Rack" today. It had #0030 and the name Carl Robinson stamped in the metal underneath. It had rods, not cables and the knee lever shafts came through the back apron of the guitar. The levers themselves were attatched to the shafts outside of the guitar as opposed to hanging under the guitar. It had a tuning wrench that resembled a drum tuning key. My guess by looking at the changer is that is from the early 60s. The pedal action felt pretty good and couldn't tell how good it sounded since there was not a decent amp to play through. All in all it was in pretty good shape. Do you think $400 is a fair price? What else do any of you guys know about these guitars? It looks like a fun guitar to tinker around with.

Hi Dave,
Carl lives in Riverbank, Ca. I know him well. I will call him when I get back to Modesto, Tuesday and find out when my Dad built it for him...The price isn't bad, you can always make offer, who has it???

Dave, Chuck built my double neck Sierra and I took delivery in the fall of 67 and it was on a Brad's Rack. I believe mine was the second or third after Vance Terry's. I think that changer came about around 65 or 66. Chuck had started going to rod pull after the cable pull system with the new changer. The early ones also had shrink fit on the rods to keep the noise down from hitting each other.
That's my limited knowlege and experience with these trend setting guitars.

I had a Sierra D10 9P with legs and cable pull. It had serial number 0015 on it and I received it about 1960 or 61 I believe.

David, the guitar is for sale at a place in Santa Rosa. I think it was called Grandmas Attic. It's an old metal storage container on Kiwanas Springs Road between Petaluma Hill Ave and Santa Rosa Ave. He's open on weekends and his name is Steve Wolfe.
