Drop Box for BIAB files

Post by Ken Metcalf »

I am thinking of starting this but don't want to make a huge project out of it. Maybe just a good starting point for newbes or an idea exchange thing.
If some one knows a better way please post it
We could post some walk ups and endings ect.

If I have this right you can click on this and work with this folder ?
Anyone familiar with this technology please try it and chime in.
It says it is set for "Allow members to invite others".

This may take some adjustments so we will see if it takes off.

I don't think this should be an encyclopedia of songs but a cross section of material and style examples.
It is very easy to send BIAB files attached in an email between friends.
I am trying to see if I can let others add files? probably not but it is a start.

P.S. if you sign up on the top link this account will gain more free memory space.

The 2nd link is the link to the folder and could be given to anyone. 8)

Maybe set up some folders for organization purposes.
Country
Blues
Rock
Jazz

Do not set up artists folders within each folder.

Ray Price
Waylon
Willie
BB king
Miles Davis
Etc.

Try to keep it alphabetical - no numbering
I looked at what is at drop box and believe you will need to edit enteries or it may turn into a mess.

Simple catagory names with a sub folder of artists may too much for to keep up with. ( too many artists doing the same song - too many versions to assign to particular artist folder.)

Just country, blues, jazz and rock then let the biab files be saved as the name of the song and let alphabetics editing automarically do the work for you.

Simple guidline would be for all entries to be saved as the original title of the song.
If a the name of the artist is important to the version, just add the artist name after the title of the song then all artist versions would be listed in one place alphabetically.

But as you pointed out, ("I don't think this should be an encyclopedia of songs"), maybe all I said is unrelated.

Hi Ken,
Yes, I saw what was there:

A. Steel Guitar Traditional Standards----
B. Hank, Haggard and Traditional Country----
C. Bluesy and Rockish----
D. Jazzy----

This is just a suggestion for Categories:

Blues
Country
Gospel
Hawaiian
Jazz
Rock

Steel Guitar Traditional Standards:
In addition to 'Steel Guitar Traditional Standards' some might load Traditional Hawaiian, Gospel Country Standards into that category.

This DropBox idea really has potential, and could easily be tweaked by you as it goes. DB has no 'Search" interface, so Alphabetics with limited Category names would be preferred, at least for me, because of the restrictions of no 'Search'.

Example: When exposed to a large resource library that has no 'search' capabilities and many reference attributes, I find myself moving on without retrieving what I was after.

I'm only suggesting
Respectfully

Any suggestions / requests to add examples of styles or functions.
Hawaiian and Gospel are good suggestions
I am thinking this could be a set of styles and examples for fine tuning BIAB and discussions.
Not intended to be a large resource library of songs.
Big Jim Barron has that handled and we can email large files of songs if anyone wishes.
Some suggestions might be like:

Styles...
Tag functions / Endings
Practice loops like Aug / Dim
Bar settings / changes during a song
Chord settings / Song Settings
How to Render files for WMA and MP3
Examples of tips and hints etc.

Also Drop box is free and any one can put up things in a file of there own if they wish.
Let me know.

Hi Ken,

Just a heads up.

Tried to download Blue Jade from you DropBox link, (to compare it with my own version) but yours appears to be corrupted :o .

My version is for New Blue Jade if you like you could put it into your shared folder.

My link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gcu7r003iav6kc6/nJRopDFqM6#

Feel free to modify and improve :D

Drop Box.

Hi Pete. I downloaded your file and it comes to me as HTML? It shows to be a SGU, which of course is playable with any BIAB version. Is there a way to change this format?----Leon Carpenter

Hi Ken,

I'd like to add some files to the dropbox for sharing, but can't seem to figure out how to get them from my dropbox to yours.

Any advice?

Leon,

sounds to me like you downloaded the file 'Blue Jade' from Kens 'A. Steel Guitar Traditional Standards' folder, which does show as an html file when loaded into BIAB although its file name says 'Blue Jade.SGU'

My link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gcu7r003iav6kc6/nJRopDFqM6# will get you 'New-Blue-Jade.SGU' from my DropBox Public folder, which is a good BIAB file (I just checked by using the link on this forum).

Kens idea of a shared DropBox Folder is a good one but we need to resolve any issues with regard to cross posting in order to remove the need for someone to have to manage 'The Folder'.

At present I don't know how this can be done but will try to find out.

Looks like the shared folder will have to be managed . You can Download files OK but only the 'owner' can upload. Anyone know different?

That's because the folder isn't a shared folder just a shared link.

If the owner of the dropbox make the folder a shared folder and invites people to this folder. Then all invited persons can add, edit, ... the files in the folder.

Only people that has a dropbox account can be invited!

See movie here
http://av.vimeo.com/81964/936/135564699 ... ca6171ab95

A drawback is that the owner has to invite each person that will be able to share.

You can still use the shared link for just reading the files.

Also (as an suggestion about searching the archive) if you download the BIAB folder to your dropbox then all the content will be synced to you harddrive and you can use Explorer to search for the files.

Sorry guys I haven't looked in here lately
I have it set up to share but no one is invited.
It looks to me like if I invite someone then they can invite others who can in turn contribute and edit.
Please remember if you sign up using this link it will increase the storage so sign up with this link.
https://db.tt/WH1ZNTHt
I will need some email addresses to invite so send them to me.
My email is metcalf.ken@gmail DOT com dot omitted correct this when you send me your email and then it should get going.

Hi Ken

I'm still getting only the piano, bass and drums, although that style has guitar and strings tracks, they are grayed out and no data is on those instruments, am I doing something wrong?

Hi Robert

looks like those instruments are disabled. To enable them select the one you want by right clicking in the button on the top bar & then down to last but one in the drop down list were it will be saying track is disabled. Left click that to enable it.

It is a backing track however so you wouldn't want to enable a track for melody say as you would be playing that :D or for a rhythm or lead guitar if you've got other players sitting in

Thanks Pete and Bob
This will be trial and error as we work the bugs out if it works for me and not for you. I am not real sure what I am doing but when we get the bugs worked out perhaps we can make this a sticky and have a basic library of tips and tricks examples.

Thanks Peter,

I'll try that. This will be a really good thing once we know what we're doing. At least in regard to Drop Box. LOL

This is a really cool idea I'm a beginner (non pedal) and I own BIAB I have yet to be brave enough to create my own backing track to play along with yet.

Are these in strictly one format?

For example, only ones that use Midi instruments, or can the songs also use a mix of Midi-Real Tracks & Only Real Tracks?
