It's a Sho-Bud, not Maverick. Though it does look like a Maverick. :)

Shobud

Post by Al Vesel »

Wilmer,
It is a Shobud Maverick. To clarify, the model is a Maverick made by Shobud. These were comparable to an entry level guitar or student model. Shobud made the Maverick in brown mica or lacquered birdseye maple, etc. The end plates are also black. All other models are aluminum, except the Baldwin crossover and the Maverick. The undercarriage is definitely Maverick.

I hope this clears it up for you.

Sho-Bud Maverick

Post by Jim Horan »

Here is what I know about the Maverick. The first ones made were pretty solid maple with raised neck and Gumby key head. The later model were solid maple with a brown burl vinal covering. It has an ashtrey type keyhead, no raised neck, most had the dust catcher fret board. They had 3 pedals and 1 knee lever. Some of the early ones had no knee levers. The one for sale, had the vinel removed and painted.

I think it's a later Maverick , the early ones had a gumby keyhead. Perhaps the vinyl body covering has been removed.

It's a Maverick circa 1976 or 1977. Late in 1977, they used a "pro"-type rack with leg clamps. The one for sale has the leg screws going thru the legs. I have a late 1977 and it has the narrow "Fender" pedals and S-B pro rack. This guitar has the earlier "delta-type" pedals. The rack at one time most likely had a strip of wood-grain vinyl on its face. I think all the vinyl was simply removed from this guitar and everything was just re-finished.
