can some of you all tell me what advantage it would be to put this change on my steel. and do I have to have another change to work with it ..what sound and licks will it get for me . that I don't have with a regular set-up thanks Jack

A number of players couple this change with raising the 1st string (possibly the 7th) a whole tone.

Uses are, going from a B to an E chord similar to the A and B pedals cept they aren't split. Srings 1, 2 and 5. Buddy splits those changes; like he did wheh he split Budd Isaacs lone pedal into our present A and B.

Another use for the 2nd string raise is to resolve from a V7 to a I chord as follows:

1. Bar at any dominant fret.

2. Lower the 2nd string a half a tone.

3. Pick strings 2, 3 and 5 giving you a V7 chord.

4. Now let off the lower of the 2nd string, and as you do bring in the raise you are speaking of; AND engage the A and B pedals.

This is a V7 to I chord with a little different spelling than we are used to; and like PF's pedal 4, it has a haunting sound to it. But nice if used in the right places,

You can play some pretty neat sounding unison type stuff using different combinations of that lever, the lever that lowers 4th string 1/2 tone, lever that lowers 2nd string whole tone, "A" pedal, or the "C" pedal. Of course, not all at the same time. That would give you 4 ways to play unison notes. It's fun to experiment with moving from one to the other in different ways.

I have it on my 'pedal 0'. Now and then I find a use for it, but I don't really 'need' it.

I think it's pretty much required if you raise your first string to G#. If you think of F# to G# as the first pedal in a B tuning, D# to E would be the second pedal. Combining the two gives you the B to E (I to IV, or V to I) change.

Since I don't have the F# to G# change, my D# to E doesn't see a lot of action.
