Herb Remington - Hall Of Fame - Great Steel Player!!

Post by C. E. Jackson »

Herb Remington was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 1979 (the 4th member). I had the pleasure of visiting with Herb in his Houston, TX, home. See photos below.

Herb played steel with Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys in his early career. See photo below.

Two of his greatest songs were Remington Ride and Bootheel Drag. See links to these below and 2 additional links which I believe you may enjoy.

Herb has contributed more the steel guitar world than
just about anyone around today. He is a very modest
unassuming man, will help you in any way he can and
would never acknowledge the vast amount of work that
he has done in his long career. I sincerely hope that
he continues for a long time.

I whole-heartedly echo what has been written above. Herb is one of the finest players I've been privileged to meet. He is also one of the nicest people I've ever met!

Years ago I played a Herb Remington album to my father who was a good piano and keyboard player. He was very complimentary about Herbs playing, and of the many steel albums of mine that he heard the only two players that he made positive comments about were Herb and Buddy Emmons.

Herb was a very stylish player in his prime.

Thanks, Bryce, Gerry, and Ken, for the comments. You guys are the greatest! I talked with Herb this morning and told him about this post. He seemed very pleased, and is looking forward to seeing the post. He still has CDs for sale, and I ordered 2 today. You can reach Herb's site at the following link:

One of the greatest and a personal favorite player. There's a lot of great "Steel guitar albums", but Herbs records are great albums period, whether you play steel or not, they make for wonderful listening. For me it doesn't get much better than "Big Dance at The Windmill Greasin'" and "Don't Mess Around With My Love". So much emotion in his hands and musical ideas. Herbie, if you see this we LOVE you!

Scott, thanks for the comment. I'm sure Herb would be pleased. He can get so many different sounds out of the steel. He is a great player!

Herb is one of the best, ever! I love his song, Sweetenin' and even did my own recording of the tune. He inspired me to write an original, "For Herb," based on his tune, "Yes, He's Gone." I love his playing.

Scott, Bruce, and Chuck, thanks for the comments. I am sure Herb will appreciate these comments when he reviews them. When I last talked with Herb, I ordered 2 new CDs from him. Looking forward to listening to them. Herb is definitely a very gifted and great steel player!
