At least back in those golden years, the musicians always looked neat and clean, like they came to entertain you. None of them appeared to be stressed for having to wear a CLEAN white shirt, tie and jacket. Their appearance always justified their high price at the gate.
What caused musicianship to drop to today's standards? |

i've got the answer, ray. it's simply the 'style' depicting the scummy degraded moral standards of today's culture.
on the pop music side, a good example would now be those once wholesome adorable kids who, after amassing millions of dollars and fans, now pride themselves on drugged out slimeyness: miley cyrus and justin bieber. |

I fault the lack of a "minor league" anymore. Does anyone here live in a place where an up and coming musician can play 5-7 nights a week and earn enough to do only that? You don't get good playing out 3-4 times a month and practicing a few hrs a week... How many of our heroes went straight from the bedroom to the limelight? |

In Diane Diekman's book about Faron, 'Live Fast, Love Hard', there is a different photo of the same band members. She identifies them as Faron's Circle A Wranglers band. (circa 1953)

Ray, what do you consider high prices?
During the 60s,- I saw the Ray Price show, Faron Young show, Buck Owens & Roy Clark show, Porter Wagonner show w/Melba Montgomery, Pete Drake and His Talking Guitar
and many others that I can't recall. Tickets cost $4-$5. All these shows were held in school auditoriums or movie theaters. I guess I was lucky to be around during that time.

Ray, It may be my backwoods upbringin' cause I play in overalls. When I play in church however, I wear my fancy cowboy shirts&jeans. I don't want my fancy clothes all stunk-up with cig smoke, so I dress accordingly. But I do like those bands in the Nudie suits, they are very cool. Marty Stuart comes to mind. Bikers, oil field workers, and cowboys don't care how you dress out here, they just want loud country music. |

Ben, thanks for the ID. They were all in the Army at the time, and Roy Lunn played steel.
Roy, that's the list I developed, and you're welcome to use it, although I'd appreciate credit when it is used. _________________ Diane Diekman

Diane.....thanks for writing the books about Faron and Marty.....I have them both and I highly recommend them to anyone that cares about their lives and the contributions made by two of the absolute best. I care a lot about who, what, when, and where and your books are an absolute joy. Thanks so much.
