The Everly Brothers' Let It Be Me on the Lap Steel

Post by Chuck S. Lettes »

Like so many, I felt a sense of loss with Phil Everly’s passing. The Everly Brothers’ music was an essential part of my childhood and of my love for music. I decided to revisit one of my favorite tunes of theirs, “ Let It Be Me.” I’m using my six string lap steel’s C6th High G tuning for this arrangement. Hope you like it.

Enjoyed very much. Your slide has pedal like dynamics must be your technique.
Truly a great loss but isn't so true that we keep the music alive and some is totally ageless, still refreshing to hear today these tune like its new music.

Thanks, Michael. Since I spent many years behind a pedal steel, I'm sure it has influenced my lap steel playing. I went from 20 strings to just 6.

Very nice, Chuck! Great intonation, tone, and feeling. I know exactly how you feel about Phil Everly's passing. The Everly Bros. were the soundtrack of my youth too. I'm sure their music will live on for generations.

Man! Wish I could see a video of your volume foot while you are playing this. I've been going back and forth between a Goodrich and an Edwards Light Beam pedal, trying to get a feel for those smooth, tasteful swells. I'm getting closer, but I sure don't sound that fine yet. Really like your Crazy Arms version, too. Thanks.

Hi Don,
Glad that you like the arrangement. Coming from a pedal steel background, the volume pedal has always been a part of my sound. A trick I discovered is to set the amplifer higher than I need and control the volume with my foot. This gives me more sustain, plus more control over the dynamics of the tune.
