Info on Rickenbacker Pedal Steels?

A bandmate told me that Rickenbacker did make pedal steels, and although I'm no authority of all things steel, I wasn't aware of this. I found a short thread on the Forum with some pictures of one, but I would like more information.
Was there many, or only a handful made? What year(s) were they produced? Any other pictures or leads are appreciated.

I had one for a few years. It was odd in that it was really short, but had a very wide footprint.

A beautiful instrument, but not very practical for me. The sound wasn't great; the first string always sounded weak.

I bought one of the first pedal steels that Rickenbacker built. It was a monstrosity to tune and keep in tune. After two weeks I returned it to the music store.

b0b, I had found your original for-sale thread; do I correctly assume that Rick pedal steels were not/are not the most desirable ones?
