Help iding this lapsteel

Post by Dave Bader »

This lapsteel was posted on another forum by a guy who bought it from someone who thought it was a fender. It looks like a cross between a Gibson Skylark and a Epiphone Electar to me. Anyone here ever see one before?

The fretboard is Skylark but the body and the headstock look a little different. And the pickup is not slanted like the skylark, and the metal control plate is shaped a little different. I think this a modified Skylark, possibly a home made control plate.

Page 146 Gibson Steel Guitars by A.R.Duchossoir identifies this model as a Skylark version 2 introduced in mid 1965.

Thanks for the replys. I knew it had to be at least partly gibson. I'll let that guy know what it is. Thanks again.
