Whatever that thing is, it would sound better if it was black.

If some one can make a road case for it I want one. I'll probably need my wife to help me load it in the car.

Ben,
Can't you see they were specifically made for an overhead compartment on a plane? Smile

Beat me to it, Lane. (Though, on consideration "Spike-O-Phone" probably rolls off the tongue a bit better...)

A pianist/composer friend of mine knows this guy.
He lives pretty close to me and I'm supposed to get to see this restoration in person, one of these days.
My friend has worked on many piano-roll arrangements for him. Mostly songs from the 20's & 30's, but I guess you could get it to play just about anything if you had the piano-roll for it.
Automaton technology!

For that matter, Rick, it wouldn't take much more than time (and a hatred of one's fellow man) to punch the holes to put Sweet Home Alabama in a player piano roll. Fortunately I doubt it's happened. Kindly refrain from suggesting it.

Think that is just a show. Watch closely the keys on the piano are working. It reminds me of a self playing piano that uses the roll, and organ combination. He may be adding some bass notes off the organ foot bars. He just has whistles and bells to put on a show. I wonder if the singer said kick of Together Again in C what would happen. Or kick off Farewell Party in G and take it to A at the end of the ride.

Bobby, it IS a player piano (you can see the roll just in front of him), and the performer adds all the sound effects, kinda like Vadrum playing to classical music
(Who says drummers aren't musicians, who can add a lot to music? I used to, but I grew up on a steady anti-drum bias, thanks to my bluegrass upbringing)

Havent seen anything like that before. Even though he isn't doing the piano part I bet its still really complicated. Looks like there are buttons of some sort above the keys on the piano he is hitting as well as pulling those cords.

Check this guy out. He's not only playing all the effects, but he's playing lead AND bass with his feet in the first verse. I just can't imagine having this many things going at once! Confused

If it really got used to develop cartoon soundtracks, I think it speaks more to how recording technology has changed. Now a days you'd just get samples, overdub, and mix your ass off. Sixty years ago you had to play your ass off. Wow!
