What happens if You get to the threshold of your tuning nut and run out of tuning room either up or down? Thanks
This hasn't happened, and I don't know that it will. I just want to know how to deal with it if the situation arrises. Thank you. _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 , Lil Izzy Buffer, Goodrich 120 volume pedal, Boss DD-7, Peterson Strobo flip, Peavey Nashville 112 |

If you mean to the end of the threads, it'll cut new ones. If you mean used up all the slack, that's what we call "overtuned." And you back them off and try again. If the problem persists (unlikely unless you change gauges or something goes wrong), then you'll need to add lever throw or increase leverage by changing bellcrank holes. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

While Lane is correct in that new threads will be cut (most nuts are not threaded initially anyway), if the tuning nut has been drilled and blind at one end, a problem will develop. I usually either replace the tuning nut with one that has been drilled all the way thru as by the time I've noticed the problem the old nut has been bent badly or, if one was not available, I might us a lil' spacer between the scissors and the nut to afford the extra distance needed.

the other day you said that baby tuned up perfect in 3 seconds flat, or something. so it should all be adjusted correctly and working fine. if some problem develops now it's because you tinkered with something you shouldn't have or you're doing something wrong. time to start playing that thing. |

There is nothing wrong with my Guiar Chris.
I just think about things that could arise and I like to know the answers.
And I play QUITE a bit. _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 , Lil Izzy Buffer, Goodrich 120 volume pedal, Boss DD-7, Peterson Strobo flip, Peavey Nashville 112 |

You did not say what make Guitar you was worrying about the nylon tuners on. Check underneath linkage first. Some guitars use bronze pivots on the bell crank linkage.(MSA for 1). AN Allen Screw locks the rod in the pivot. Check to make sure the rod has not slipped under the set screw. Check the problem string linkages and pivots to make sure something has slipped or bent. If it just happens all at once. Changing the E9th 6th string from wound to solid or solid to wound could cause such a problem. If it works properly and then won't, May have another problem to deal with to correct the threads not being properly placed for the Nylon tuner nut. Good Luck & Happy Steelin. |
