For some reason Dave Brubeck Quartet Live At Carnegie Hall is very much in the spirit of the season for me... I guess it may resemble Vince Guaraldi somewhat. That Joe Morello was too much... the entire album reeks of awesome.

There are a bunch of seasonal recordings that we play including Neville Mariner and St. Martin in the Field's Festival of Carols, Nat King Cole, Jerry Douglas Jerry Christmas, Christmas with Chet Atkins, etc. But this one is my and my wife's all-time favorite for 20+ years:

Years ago I bought a no name CD called "Pickin on Christmas" and there were no credits listed but it was professionally recorded and some beautiful steel guitar playing and arrangements.
With Serious radio in my car there are various styles available. The blues channel last year had a "Blue Yule" hour. Very different and inspiring.
Also, Nat King Cole "The Christmas Song" was my dad's
favorite.

Every December, I seem to hover around Christmas recording by Nancy Wilson, Vince Guaraldi, Lena Horne, Frank Sinatra, and Joni James. A few years ago, I discovered a beautiful Christmas tune recorded by Claire Lynch called "Heaven's Light" that has definitely made its way into the rotation.

I listen to all the classics like Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Bobby Helms, and many others. For steel playing, there's a cd I love to play steel with called "Christmas In Nashville" and a few of my favorite songs are on there-the record features Tommy White on steel. My favorite songs to play with on that record are "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" by Judy Rodman, an artist I loved as a kid, "O Holy Night" an instrumental where Tommy White plays the chorus, "Silent Night" by an artist named Darren Robbins, and a beautiful version of one of my favorite Christmas songs, "Away In A Manger" by an artist named Regina Leigh-probably one of the best versions I've heard with a steel solo. And also, since I'm a huge fan of the Home Alone" movie, the theme song of that movie called "Somewhere In My Memory" is a favorite of mine-I listen to it, then play along with it on steel.

Same here, although the early 1960s are my cutoff point. Andy Williams's 'The Most Wonderful Time of the Year' is perhaps the last good one recorded.Dom Franco wrote:I like the old Christmas classics... Bing, Gene Autry, Nat King Cole and perhaps up to and including the Carpenters. The new Christmas stuff just doesn't appeal to me.
