My prize guitar. Sadly, a thermal shock checked the lacquer. Gift from my parents and a guy dad used to play with.

This was Mike's second choice. As he was getting ready to record 8 String Swing, both OMI and Rudy Jones built guitars with the understanding that he'd endorse one and the other he could do with as he liked. A few months later, I got the one he didn't like as much as a graduation present. I think this one lost because it has a darker tone.

Here's mine, second from the right, I only have a family pic, I'm afraid. I might take a few close ups at a later date.

I don't know too much about it, actually. I picked it up about 15 years ago here in Oz. It's a square neck Dobro; it doesn't have a serial number, just at patent number near the bridge. I looked it up in a Dobro book a while back that seemed to put it at around the early 30s.

It sounds great! I only tend to use it for recording these days, as I'd hate for it to get stomped on at a gig. Besides, controlling the feedback is a big hassle when plugged in.

Circa 1935 Hansel guitar with Brasher hardware. Made in Toronto.
This one had no brand decal on the head-stock. It was picked out of a production batch for one of the band members of Ted Brasher's band. The band member moved to southern Alberta in 1947, and sold the guitar to a Granum farm-wife. She played it for awhile, and then it deteriorated in a barn for about 20 years. The owner's daughter gave it to me. I researched the history of the guitar, and the history of the inventor, Charles Edward Brasher, and Canadian Musician Magazine published the story in the August 1984 issue, long out of print.
I added a piezo transducer, and a humbucker pickup, plus a Quarterman cone, and a Dobro #14 spider. There is also a Bobby Wolfe inspired skirt baffle in the waist area, Schaller tuners, and pearl dots installed in the standard Dobro locations and patterns
