This kickstarter project looks promising

Ran across this tuning device on Kickstarter. Not attached to the project in any way, but it looks like a combo stringwinder and tuner, works with a mobile app. Quite amazing, actually, and the start up docs are pretty buttoned up. I'd say this has a chance of succeeding. The best part for steelers is that it can wind and unwind your strings, and supposedly will allow you to set up custom tuning for any stringed instrument, including 10 or 12 string steels. I guess if you are doing a lot of tuning, this can really help avoid carpal tunnel syndrome

seems like its just a standard iphone tuner app that turns the peg for you

Supposedly it also measures elasticity of the strings to determine when to change them. That's something that I'd never seen before. A dead string determinator.
