Topic: Storing a Pedal Steel |

| Does it make a difference whether a pedal steel is stored in its case or if it is kept standing on its legs when not in use for up to a year at a time? Obviously dust could be a factor if it is kept out of the case even if it is covered. Any other considerations? Thanks,steve |

I'm no expert, but if it were me, I would do the following
1. Take much of the tension off of the strings. Put on a new set when I am ready to use it again.
2. Clean off the guitar really well. Take the sweat and salts off of the finish to preserve the look.
3. I would then put it in the case to keep the light from fading any of the finish and put it away in a sensible place. (ie, not a damp basement, unheated shed or some place with an uncontrolled environment. )
That's what I would do....

Right on. Make sure it's in the living quarters of your house, not the garage.
I can't believe how metal things corrode in the garage. Or why, for that matter.

I play my SD-10 Fessy most of the time for club gig's and keep my 75 PP at home in my "small" studio in the case most of the time to save floor space. I keep one of those "de-humidifier" things in the case and it seems to do a good job of keeping it dry.
But I'm in Southern California and it's pretty dry here most of the time.

| I agree on keeping it in the case, and away from moisture. Put one or two of those little silicone bags of dessicant (sp?) to help absorb moisture. Also, if your case doesn't have supports to keep the changer and tuning pegs off the bottom, store it with the case handle up. |

Long time ago, I left my Fender 2000 in a spare bedroom and covered. Seemed to be just fine. Then our cat decided he'd sleep on top of it. That was OK. But then he decide to pee on the pedal board like cats do when they spray things. Darn Cat ! My advice, put it in the case and leave it there. I'ts a lot safer.
