I've been thinking of geting a (budget)squareneck resonator for a while & it seems the Regal is the one to go for. I've got the chance to buy a second-hand 1999 model with a bone nut & a national cone for less than a new one sells for in this country, is this likely to be a decent guitar? I don't have as many options in the UK as you guys but this seems to be a good deal.
Any opinions greatly appreciated. |

Hey Matt that Regal is not the top of the line guitar or anything like that; but I've played a couple of them square neck Regals and they sound great to me. I actually played one that sounded better than my Dobro brand Dobro.
I think in your situation; that would be just fine pal.

you might like to give Hobgoblin a visit (just up the road from Ivor Mairants) as they have the occasional Johnson at knock down prices. I got a round neck there, put a nut extender on it and am very pleased with it

| Does it really have a national cone in it? Is it a spider bridge style/ I know National makes a Dobro-style guitar now but I didn't know they were selling cones for them. |

| Mike, I haven't seen the guitar yet but the guy says it has been upgraded with a national cone, bone nut and maple bridge inserts. |

Matt,
A new Regal is well worth the money.I own and have owned many of the $$$ high end dobros.I have to say that the Regal sounds better than most I have played.Saga who builds the Regal line really are tops.I played a gig last night with mine and people surrounded me wanting to talk about the dobro.The new Regal square neck has a black spider resting on the cone.This guitar has the volume and tone that my $$$ SHOULD HAVE. |

Andy if you think that sound good stick a Quarterman cone and another spider in it with a ebony bridge. #300 % improvement. See Paul Beard on the net.

Larry,
I know the quarterman cone setup is great but with the new designed Regal the tone and volume is a 10.These dobros are ready to play out of the box.The quality,volume,price, and sound of these dobros is a good deal at $325.00. |

I bought a Flinthill (with good quality hard case) from Paul Beard and imported it fpr around the same price as a Regal.
I bought mine since my custom is a bit too nice for throwing around when I work away from home.
Quarterman cone, bone nut and ebony capped bridge.
Not quite as a Beard or a Guernsey etc. but excellent value.
Thats my few pennies worth.
I agree that things are a little dry in the UK for TIFKAD.

I'm definitely going to check this guitar out. I know very little about resophonics so if you guys have any tips on what to check/look out for I'd be grateful.
