I believe this was the original form of the Dual Professional before it was changed to the trapezoid pickup. I regret that Jody Carver doesn't hang around anymore to provide indisputable info.

I think you're right, Jon. The earliest version of the Dual-8 Pro had boxcars and Roman numeral fretboards with no legs. I've seen transitional models with mixed elements of different features before the traps and diamond/bar fretboards and legs became standard. So, I would call this one an early Dual 8 Professional.
Nothing wrong with your price at all. For that condition, one might also hope to find the later model with the trap pickups and legs, so I think your guitar would have to appeal to someone who is also interested in its relative rarity and history. A very cool guitar.
And just to complete the timeline, the trapezoid Dual Pro over lapped with the Stringmaster which came in '53. I'm not clear on how much longer the DP lasted but it was discontinued soon after.
Definitely late 40s. I have a Dual 8 Pro dated 1950 (Tadeo Gomez in pencil with an April '50 pencil in the tuning pan rout) and it has trapazoid pickups. Did you look under the tuning pans? There is likely an exact date in pencil under one of them.
Price seems in Line to me, I looked at one in worse condition that Was priced the same.
Though I thought that was high for its condition. I think I am noticing a trend here developing over the last 6 months. I've seen some great guitars at great prices that I wish I would have been in the market for.
