I recently purchased a Lil Izzy from Mr. Baker. I had one back in the 1980's and absolutely loved it. It is a great product and sure cleans up your sound. The Lil Izzy does make the highs brighter. I am wondering if anyone using it has changed their amp settings or changed any effect settings. I have cut the highs back some and am just curious what others are doing with this product. I have recommended this product to friends and have a couple who purchased it and love it. Thanks to Mr. Baker for coming out of retirement to build this product again.

I have definitely dialed my highs down a bit, and the lows up a bit with the Li'l Izzy, running through a Hilton. But, if I take it out and go back to my old settings, I do not like the tone I get now. The Li'l Izzy is a keeper.

I don't have one now, but I had one of the original models and don't recall setting the Session 500 I was using at the time any different(using a Goodrich 120 pot pedal).

Doug. . . Thank you for your comments regarding Li'l Izzy. With the increase in bandwidth that any good buffer provides, most players will want to reduce the presence or treble somewhat, as Lane suggests.

While Li'l Izzy has a flat audio response and no gain, it allows the guitar's previously undetected natural overtones to be heard clearly. This results in an "apparent" increase in volume along with more of the guitar's highs getting to the amplifier.

Since overtones are the ingredient that make a steel guitar sound so pleasing, some manufacturers have voiced their amplfiers with extra highs in an attempt to project more of the overtones. The problem is. . . without a good bufer at the pickup, before any guitar cords, the overtones never make it to the amplifier. This artificial boost in highs can have the opposite effect and quickly become shrill. . . rather than pleasing.

It would be very helpful to others, and always appreciated if a player adds a Li'l Izzy, then posts the "new" amplifier settings.

Thank you again Doug, for your comments, and thanks also, to those who responded.

Sincerely,
Craig Baker 706-485-8792

I agree and that's what I heard with mine, but it didn't require changing the EQ on the amp.

The only thing i change mostly from one guitar to the other and both have 705s pups is the trebble, 11:00 on HIs for the rittenberry and about 10:00 for the rains the rains is a little brighter guitar, this is on a nash 112 with telonics speaker, the presents about 9:00 wich is plenty for me, ive always kept the shift on 800. I really like the Izzy its been a great investment

Whenever I use my "Lil Izzy", I turn the treble down a little on my Fender Twin Reverb, both high & presence down some on my Nashville 112's.
