So I'm about ready to start laying out the underside of thus beast, and I'm wondering what y'all do to temporarily hold stuff down while pondering placement.
I'm thinking double sided tape? If it had flocking, I'd use Velcro.
Being slightly clumsy and having an 85 pound terrier, I think I wish to have more than gravity and inertia on my side.
What say those who do this regularly? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Alternatively, is there a reason NOT to use DS tape? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Lane, the only thing I can think of is the tape will leave residue. _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus! |

If you are comfortable with the layout of your other guitar, just arrange it the same. I don't think that there is any way that would allow you to temporally install levers, etc and then flip the guitar over to the playing position. I don't think the tape would allow you to move the levers without coming loose. The worst thing that might happen is that you may have to change something later, just fill the screw holes. |

Bill, the new guitar is a loaded Uni, with clustered levers et c, while my other guitar is a D-10 8&7 (but with 2 knees and a pedal doing double duty
I don't plan to flip it upright before battening it down, just make sure that I don't introduce rodding conflicts (like a lever shaft's barrels impinging on upstream pedals: I went with 2hole pullers on a Bud, so I don't have that silly limit on how many raises or lowers), and lever arms getting in each other's way.
I'm trying, on the advice of experts, to minimize needless drilling _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Tape residue can be cleaned. Holes can't be undrilled. Well, not easily, anyway.
Someone should invent an "inversion" Pac A Seat so you could sit at the guitar upside-down while you work on it. |

On my steels, I put a 1/4" thick aluminium plate in the approximate area where I want to mount my levers, using existing screw holes
If the levers are in the wrong place, I just reposition them on the plate, until I get it right.
The plate is a permanent fixture for the tenure of my ownership, but can be removed if the steel ever has to go back to original specs. |
