It is as legit as it gets. I bought it from a guy who had it as his first amp when he grew up in San Francisco in the late 60's. I've never played steel through it, but when I play it through a 12" speaker cab, it gets a great ZZ Top "Tush" sound.

I also have a 1965 Super Reverb, which is great for everything; a late 90's Standel 25L15 reissue (which I bought as a Chet amp), and three Lancaster tube amps (made in the Peoria area, where I have lived for the last 7 years).

I also have a 60's 4x10 Standel that is in dad shape. I got it a few years ago, and it has never worked. I'll probably end up dumping it in the river....

George-
Don't drown that 60's 4x10 Standel yet-
It is well worth getting repaired.
I have one and it sounds fantastic.

There are people that fix these amps, potted modules and all!

Jay,

The power light comes on, but no sound. I've not cracked it open, but know it is one of the color coded modules. Do you know who works on those?

When I get home tonight, I'll take pictures and post them.

thanks,
George

Someone here on the forum knows....he's on SoCal....

He makes replacement modules I believe.

Try searching for Standel in the electronics section

The Vega amp sounds amazing with my National Chicagoan lap steel. The Voice Of Music amp brick, on top of the Champ, is another Champ-like, single 6V6 amp.

1965 Super Reverb, late 90's Standel 25L15, and Studio XX

Post by George Beasley »

Here are a couple of other amps I have.

This is a 1965 Super Reverb. I've had it for probably 24 years.

This is a Standel 25L15 that I picked up from a Chet-style picker 3 or 4 years ago.

This is a late 60's Standel Studio XX. I bought it a few years ago, not working, for $100. I haven't tried to fix it yet.

Early 80's RD One Hundred. EVM12L w/ reverb and distortion. Still has the original tubes. Not a great steel amp but great for a Tele.

Old Bogen PA Conversion

Post by Jack Hanson »

Gordon,
Was the Bogen converted to a 5E3? I've been led to believe that particular conversion is fairly simple with some of the 6V6 powered Bogens. Yours looks pretty cool regardless.

Not converted at all, just the input jacks changes to accomidate guitar and a 1/4" speaker jack on the back for speaker connections. A monster guitar amp!

I bought this in 1999 and the original Tolex was very well worn, having been used as a coaster and ashtray. It fits what I do, currently being restored inside....

The Tele is a Chandler bodied, Fender necked and at the time of this photo (2001) had EMGs in it. Now it has Seymour Duncan vintage '54s and it is so sweet!
Red Emmons D10 fatback #2246D with sweet Hugh Briley split cases, Black Emmons S10 #1466S, '73 Fender "Snakeskin" Twin Reverb, Peavey Nashville 400, Line 6 Pod XT, Fender 400, Fender Stringmaster Double-8, too many guitars, one bass!

This is a 1953 Stromberg-Carlson AU-35a P.A. It has two output transformers with volume controls for each. They can have 4-8-16 ohm output. So I can actually have two completely different speaker configurations and control the volume independantly.1-15 and 2-10 is good together. I want to try 4-6 and 2-12 as a stack. The output is 2-6L6 per side at about 25-watts per side. The tone is global, bass-treble; each channel has volume. I'm going to use one channel for microphone; one for plug-in (cd, tape) one for guitar and steel; one for hotter PSG. A few minor adjustments will accomodate all that. A perfect studio amp, and live steel amp too.

Rick,
That is one cool old amp. Undoubtedly it sounds fantastic. Those old PA heads can be real sleepers. A friend has a vintage DuKane PA that uses 6V6s and sounds like a 5E3 Deluxe on steroids.

I hear you Jack. I used to play shows through an old Earth Sound Research PA head. I took that amp for granted because of how cheap I got it. When I lent it out and didn't get it back, the big hole in my sound showed just how much weight that amp really pulled.
