Hi Greg. Many players get them shipped over and reputable builders like Fred will do the right thing. The dollar exchange is a not favourable however. There are steels available on the Brisbane site as mentioned and check out e-bay and gumtree occasionally.
Many dealers will also send second hand ones over as well but you want some one who has a good track record. Do your homework on their reputation on this forum. Good luck

I've bought a couple of s/h guitars from forum brothers here - no probs. Should only cost a few hundred in freight. Then you have 5 or 10 percent duty on the steel and then another 10 per cent GST (VAT) on the steel and the freight and the duty. Then your import brokers fees (less than a hundred) Still works out OK. Current exchange rate is not bad (at .95 or so) I bought a brand new steel over at 65 cents to the US dollar in 2008, sold it reluctantly later in Australia when the exchange rate was more or less parity. Lost about a thousand bucks on a brand new steel in that transaction!

Hi Greg,

I just sent you an email regarding shipping guitars to Australia. I've recently shipped two D-10 guitars to customers there, via DHL.
Best regards,

Hi to all. Thank you to everybody that took time out of their busy schedules to help me with my search for a steel guitar. The response has been overwhelming and I have received plenty of emails. I have to say that the steel guitar community is like one big family everybody helps each other and I am glad to be part of that family. Once again thank you. Kind regards greg

Hi Greg,

Where in NSW are you located? I'm in Wollongong. Send me a private message via the forum with a mobile number and we can talk...I've imported 4 D10 steels over the past few years.
The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being.
