SOLD - 1974 Fender Deluxe 8, Very Clean! ---> $995

Post by Doug Beaumier »

New Lower Price: $995.00 plus $35 FedEx ground shipping. USA ONLY

1974 Fender Deluxe 8 with Case

Exceptionally Clean!

Stringmaster features, 22 1/2” scale length. The warrantee card has a copyright date of 1974.

The legs extend so you can play seated or standing.
Excellent playing condition, as new. Cosmetic condition is 9 out of 10. There are a couple of small scuffs on the body, shown in the pictures below. And the original owner etched some numbers into the little chrome cover that covers the blend control. The numbers are barely visible. You have to look hard to see them. The Case is in great condition with a couple of very tiny dings in the tolex. The latches work well. Whoever owned this guitar didn’t play it much!

Current tuning: C6/A7 w/high G.

<strike>$1125.00</strike> $995.00 plus $35 shipping FedEx ground anywhere in the USA, lower 48. USA ONLY
Hawaii and Alaska okay, but the shipping will be quite a bit more to Hawaii or Alaska. Paypal preferred.

Thanks for looking!

Doug - Are you cleaning house??

I'e got a late 60's similar to it - different tuners.

These guitars have a great sound, and you can dial in the amount of blend between the pickups.

Hi Carl, yeah, I'm doing some fall house cleaning! 8)

Fender started using those tuners with the hexagon shaped buttons in the late 60's on their regular guitars, and phased them in on the steel guitars. They are known as "F tuners" in the world of vintage guitars.

Mine's got the butterbean keys, but I thought it was a '68 - maybe it's older :?

When I change strings again I'll pull the pan and see.

Fender stopped writing the "pencil date" in the body cavity by the late 50s, early 60s. The date code on the pots will tell you when the pots were made. Fender bought a huge supply of pots in 1966 and used them for many years. My 68 tele has it's original '66 pots. The Case might help to date the guitar, if it's the original case.

The case is black with orange interior, like yours.

They introduced those cases in late 1962, so your guitar would be between about 1963 and 1968 (F tuners). 1965 to '67 there was no Logo on the case. All the other black cases had the Fender logo on them. Of course, Fender was known to use up all the stock on hand, so there may be transitional years... the cases, the tuners, the pots, etc. 8)

I have a '69 Deluxe 8 with butterbeans... one pickup has '69 written on the back. Has '66 pots, black case with logo.

I guess Fender was still working through that huge supply of '66 pots in '69. I know they switched over to the F tuners on the regular electric guitars by '68, but they must have continued using the remaining stock of Klusons on the non-pedal steels for a couple more years, and eventually went to the F tuners on those too.
