Humbuckers for an old Fender lap steel?

Post by Al Carey »

I'm looking at the 8 string Fender lap steel in the for sale section, I've always wanted one. The problem is I have an issue with electrical noise in my home studio, and can't use single coils.

Is there a (good sounding)drop-in humbucker to replace the single coils in an 8 string Fender? I obviously am not willing to do any routing or other permanent mods.

If you are looking at a second version Fender Deluxe 8, the two pickups are RWRP. The blend control under the bridge cover will allow you to dial in both pickups in a humbucking configuration. The first version Deluxe 8 is a single pickup guitar which doesn't buck the hum.

D'oh ... I was slow to post, but yes, thats what your looking for in a Deluxe 8

As Ron said, the later Deluxe 8 with dual pickups like the Stringmasters can be humbucking.

I'm guessing your thinking of Nicholas's steel for sale? If so thats the mode Deluxe 8 you would want then http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=251716
