This works fantastic after the freeloader NOT before. Its as close to the pickup as possible and still able to adjust the freeloader tone and the Izzy will still do its job,

More info to come while using it on my rack system. Whatever I`ve done "I don`t know but it sounds fabulous.

Please Let me know if you think I`m doing something wrong here. I hate to see any of it start smoking because of my stupidity.

Mr Schwartz (pardon the formality, but Mr. Baker reads every post here), since everything is pretty low-level signals, even if you hook stuff up stupid, you're not likely to harm anything (unless there's a problem, sending supply voltage down the cables).
If you have two buffers, try putting one straight out of the guitar, and one right after the volume pedal. I run an Izzy plus out of the guitar when I run solid state, and out of the pedal when running tubes.
Since the freeloader has a knob, I'd put it after the pickup and the Izzy on the pedal, but I'd try them both. If you have two buffers, I'd definitely put one at the guitar and one before that long cable to the amp. Try each configuration. At least one will make you happy.

Danger Will Robinson !

Post by Craig Baker »

Don't worry!
Chances are the only loss you will suffer is the amazing sound you could have had. . . by using Li'l Izzy correctly.

Li'l Izzy always allows you to achieve the ultimate sound from your instrument. . . only when it is connected directly to the pickup. The circuit has been carefully designed to isolate the pickup from loading of any kind. It's the only device I know of that is designed to let your pickup produce all it can! and it does it very well!

Since we are only transferring voltage, there is never a need to "match" the pickup. In fact, since the impedance of the pickup depends on the notes being played, obviously it would be impossibe to "match" it. One only needs to read the many posts on this forum, from all of the musicians who are correctly using Li'l Izzy at the pickup, adjusting their tone. . . "downstream" to realize they're delighted because with Li'l Izzy, they have finally captured the sound they've been chasing so long.

Respectfully,
Craig Baker 706-485-8792

Craig:

Using the Lil Izzy with a small tube amp and a lap steel. It really makes the amp sing.

Question: If I leave the Lil Izzy plugged in, is the battery activated with the cord in or should I remove the cord or the Lil Izzy from the guitar to retain battery life?

The switch is on the jack. To prolong battery life, pull the cable.

Hi Len,
Thanks for your post. Just the other day, I called Yomega to make sure your Li'l Izzy was behaving. They said you retired to work the road with one of the Opry acts. LOL

Len, at the low current Li'l Izzy draws, the battery spec says it's good for approximately 6000 hours. If you leave the cord plugged in, it may be reduced to around 5,999 hours. In any regard, battery life is not an issue with Li'l Izzy.

(unless you play a double neck guitar like Lane, I'm not sure, but that may cut the battery life in half.) LOL

Best personal regards,

I should clarify my last post about the freeloader before the izzy :
If I switch them around , the freeloader is rendered useless being 2nd in the chain,

Lane the reason for my attempt at these items together is just to have more control over those extreme highs that the Izzy produces. These are very sensitive professional items especially the Izzy for its brightness, having the freeloader in front does make it nice to bring the brightness down quickly. and thanks for the tips on other spots in can go.

sometimes when I`m experimenting, I catch myself doing things the hard way first. I`m just being an open book on my travels with these items together "not that its gonna stay this way" just sayin.

I do appreciate all of the knowledge learned here, My attempts are to take a different avenue (The Craig Baker way) when I find the time, just being very cautious with them highs with my setup, I had a first time users huge mistake in front of 300 people, just by plugging it in for the first time on a stage, Not a good idea. Get used to the item before you hit the stage, Its definitley for professional use only and Craig s gonna make a pro out of all of us that use this thing. Thanks Craig

Today, I received my "Lil Izzy" and used it with just my Show Pro, Goodrich 120 & vintage 67 Fender Twin Reverb. Superb tone & string separation :D . In fact, I'm so pleased that I might retire my Profex II. Craig, thank you!

Getting used to it

Post by Craig Baker »

Keith,
Thanks to the postal service in both the US and Canada, you waited an extra long time for your Li'l Izzy to arrive. After all of that checking tracking numbers and waiting. . . Boy am I relieved to hear that you like the Li'l Izzy. Thank you for your nice post.

Craig,
Just this weekend I mentioned in another thread that after I developed and started using Li'l Izzy, one of the first things it revealed was how Non-Nashville my playing is. Good advice to "study your lines" before they open the mic. One Saturday night years ago just outside of Atlantic City I turned everything on, pushed the volume pedal down and started playing. It didn't take long to realize some practical joker had loosened the strings on my steel. Even the ones that I use.

Jerry,
Thank you for your post. Glad to learn that you like your sound. It's hard to beat the basic fundamentals. 67 Fender Twin huh? You better keep your door locked. With the equipment you've listed, it would be difficult to get anything but a good sound!

Again, thank you gentlemen. Play well.

Sincerely,
Craig Baker 706-485-8792

You're very welcome, Craig. Thank you, for re-introducing your Lil Izzy. I purchased that particular Fender Twin Reverb, new in 1967 from Apollo Music, downtown Ann Arbor, Mi.

1967 Fender Twin

Post by Craig Baker »

Jerry,
Small world!

I had a Standel for almost two full weeks before I heard a Fender Twin. Clemmer's Music in Harleysville, PA didn't ask any questions. I had just bought a metallic blue Fender 800 from them, and they knew I neded that Fender Twin. Back then I could even lift it.

Take care,Best regards,

Clemmer's Music, eh? My first Peavey Nashville 400 had the name "Clemmer" spray-painted on the back. Never knew what that was... Now I know! :)

Jim,
They've probably been gone 15 years or so, but that may be the one they loaned us for Buddy to use at one of the Steel Session shows.

Hope all is well in Elkins Park.
