Just did my first recorded steel playing

Post by Eric Myers »

Ok it took 30 takes to get these 4 notes to sound halfway decent outta my Remington D10/Fender Bassman, and I would be fired on the spot after just hitting one note if I ever tried to play with a band at this stage, but this is the result of after a week or so serious;y getting into the steel guitar. PS this is s song my wife and I wrote and she is singing (is she the only singing Drill Sergeant? hahaha) and it should stream ok for you to listen to by just clicking it. Warning: Its a little on the country/alt/rock side so if electric guitars arent your thing...... anyway I'm just proud I could make some musical noise with the steel in the context I wanted it (its played in the break) anyhow heres the link CLICK HERE if you care to hear what a one week old playing brand-new steeler sounds like! =)(its a windows media file)
I dont believe there is any instrument more SOULFULL
Cheers - Eric
PS Recorded into a computer using Sonic Foundry Vegas, drums from Mick Fleetwood loop cd, I play all other instruments - this is what computers were designed for =))<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Eric Myers on 31 May 2003 at 09:25 AM.]</p></FONT>

Good job Eric & Wifey, I listened to this a few days ago and haven't had time to comment. If your looking for ways to improve this, I would suggest that you use the repeating guitar part on just the intro and the spaces between the verses. Use the acoustic guitar or something similar on the verses to draw some contrast between the different sections. Overall jood job though. I wish more steelers would post links to thier playing.

Thanks all - lovin every minute of it
You know what is giving me the hardest time? My thumpicking finger - I constantly miss the string and the string gets "caught" between the flesh of my thumb and back of the pick - I guess thats what playing over and over is good for - everytrhing else seems to be falling in place pretty natural!
Cheers

Eric, good job for playing only a week.
I liked the last steel chord, it left a nice atmosphere at the end of the break.

You also got a lot more people listening that I did when I posted something a month or so back.
Keep up the good work and enjoy steeling away.
