Webb 614E vs. Nashville 1000

I've played my Williams through forumite Rick Collins' 614E and the tone is just unbelievable. Just wondering if anyone out there has done any side by side comparison of this amp with a Nashville 1000. My buddy is a Peavey dealer and will gladly sell me an N 1000 for about half the price of a new Webb.

Have you considered Evans? They are not as expensive as the Webb and have great tone and string separation. I personally play through an Evans FET 500 and am really happy with it.

Marc, I personally don't think that you will find a finer sounding amplifier than the Nashville 1000. Having had a hand in the design of this amp from day one back in 1997, I can personally state that our R & D efforts covered literally every aspect of good R & D such as using the latest technology of a 300 watt digital power amp with the flexible eq circuit of the modified Nashville 400. We also used the proven 1501-4 ohm shallow basket Black Widow. Also, we redesigned the cabinetry using an all wood design. The amp weighs 57lbs. and we even held a "pro" jam in 1999 which included all of the Nashville, Tennessee pro players.

Best thing is to run over and plug
your steel into it. If you like it
then go for it. Each amp has it's
own character & sometimes you have
to keep hunting till you find one that
does it for you. For some, the hunt

Marc, Webb 614-E is the Rolls Royce of steel amps. The Nashville 1000 is a good amp, its just in a different class. It sounds like you've already heard the quality difference.

My opinion: For weight, tone, cost,dependibility, service ability, warrantee, lack of hum and hiss, and 300 watts of brutal Power, nothing comes close to the newest Peavey Nashville 1000, period. It's just not as pretty as the Webb. I'm buying the amp for my ears , not my eyes.

The next step up is the Standell, if you don't mind the price, weight or low power,
The Standell's sound great, but at $3500.00 for a 25 watt amp? Naw, not me.
I'll just keep loving the Peavey 1000.

I go along with Jay. Even if ten steelers had played both amps side by side and all agreed which was best, that's not going to necessarily be your favorite.

That having been said, I own three Webb amps and I love them all. The only Peavey amp I own is the Solo, which is battery operated, so I can play steel in acoustic jams when I'm at music festivals without AC. The only reason I have that Peavey is that I haven't bought an A.E.R. amp yet.

I was using a 1971 Fender Twin w/JBL's until last week when I bought a new 1000. So far, the Nashville sounds great at home with its clean quiet power and nice reverb, but I'll decide for sure on the job tomorrow night. I'm using the suggested E9 setting in the manual except reverb is at 3.5. Don't get me wrong, the Fender's warm tube sound is nice too, but the weight was getting to me and I can't stand seeing the vintage amp take any more road abuse.
