I swapped out the pickups in my early 70's MSA and it made no difference at all. It still sounded like an MSA.

I changed mine out some time ago to a BL 710 and it made a significant difference... for the better.

I went from an E-66 to an 18.5 TrueTone in a lacquer 12. Became much brighter than my Zum. upon reassembly, it's getting a Hoffnar ToneAligner. I'll give a review once I get her together.
And Chris, I wouldn't get too worked up: Junior Knight spelled with an S on Facebook yesterday.
Or, as one of the enforcers of the E in John Duffey, carry on.

Hey Carl,

I have a '77 D 10 Classic with E 66's and they are much brighter than the original Super Sustains. The MSA pick ups were not potted and became super microphonic. They were humbuckers and were very mellow. I have another guitar but the MSA is still my favorite. It plays good and sounds good.
