What ELSE can you do with your picks on?

Instruments, mechanical issues, copedents, techniques, etc.

What ELSE can you do with your picks on?

Post by David Mason »

So far, I can manage getting myself a cup of coffee, woofing a shot or two of more relaxing libations, blowing my nose (carefully!) and mousing on my computer. I haven't yet attempted typing, phone dialing or the more delicate biological functions related to coffee and other libations.

About a month ago my band opened for Asleep at the Wheel and Jim Murphy doubled on tenor sax and played it with fingerpicks on. I personally can drink beer with fingerpicks in place. Now if I can just learn to play steel with them on............. -MJ-

Tap on the pickup with the volume pedal down when I'm expected to join in the applause for some singer who's sitting in.

I can barely do anything if I leave them on - that's why I keep finding sets of picks around the house (by the 'phone, next to the coffee pot, in the bathroom.....)

Adjust the little trimpots on the bottom of my Hilton volume pedals without looking for a screwdriver.

On gigs, I quite often play keyboards with them on. Of course I can't play as complex of a part as I could without them and it's easier in certain keys, and it's easier on keyboards with organ type action rather than weighted piano action. Many times it's important that I be able to switch quickly from psg to piano, and I don't concern myself with the fact that I'm not able to play the keyboard part as fluidly as I would be able to if not having on the finger picks. Sometimes, if the keyboard part is important, I'll switch to psg and play it without the picks on. -- Marc

My dog loves it when I sit down at my steel guitar. Why ? She knows she's gonna get scratched with those fingerpicks !!!
[This message was edited by Marc weller on 26 May 2003 at 11:29 AM.]

This is a little off the topic, but my ex wife used to tend bar and she would use one of my Nationals backwards on her index finger to open beer cans. Didn't know back then that they would become so scarce. Image
