Why are you Dumpin' The Bud?

Post by Bill L. Wilson »

I knew you'd finally come around. I see a nice Emmons in your future. Although I think The Bud sounds great and it'll probably sell quick. Did you ever figure out what was going on in your Lab amp?

My Super Pro is just like this but with wood necks. Maybe the metal necks were an option??

Thanx,

Well sir, I'm not an expert on weather the aluminum necks were option or not, but, I can say, I've had eight different Superpro's over many Years and all but this one and one other I've had were all wood necks.

Also most other picker's I've seen playing superpro's also had wood necks on there guitars...

My guess is when the original owner's ordered them
they my have had the choice of either style...

Perhaps someone on the forum who may have worked for Sho-Bud could chime in on this subject.?

Thanks

If my memory serves me correctly the aluminium necks were optional -- the guitars were wood necks and 8 + 6 standard... I ordered mine with Ali necks, 9 + 9 and the original BL705 pickups in 1982. Black of course.

Most had wood necks with no inlay... metal necks were optional if you were ordering the gtr from the factory, or they would just make some that way because they felt like it...you know how SB was with their production runs.
The accepted wisdom says that the difference in sound between the two models was not so much due to the material of the neck, but rather to the different ways the changers were mounted.
I've seen a few SuperPro's with inlayed necks, and they're pretty cool. Mine has aluminum necks...but I'm always on the lookout for a blonde SP with rope inlay on the body and the necks.

1st Super-Pro

Post by Al Udeen »

Hi Johnie , long time no see, Wood necks were standard on Super-Pros, I had the first Super-Pro [which was the black one on the black
Sho-Bud catalog! ser#13124] when I was with Gretsch.
I played it for 16 yrs after we introduced it at the NAMM show in Chicago in 77, That was the guitar that
I played along with Johnie at a lu-au jam in Wichita in
1990, Thanks & my best to all! Al Udeen

Take Care Johnie!

Well, Kevin...we've pretty much hijacked the thread, but check this out....
This guitar belongs (or belonged) to Bob Case. He sent it to Coop and then...well, you know the story about Coop, I'm sure. Mark Giles did the refin, and except for the inlay on the necks, we're almost there.

Johnie, sorry to hijack your thread. SuperPro's are really cool steels, and whoever snags it is gonna get a good one. Good luck with the sale.

Ha! Hey Skip and Kevin.!

That's fine with Me, it's kept this fine guitar appearing at the top of the post. :-)

And I have had some interested parties inquire but, she's steel for sale..!

May consider trade and cash option.

Thanks

Johnie
