Fulawka S-10 fully loaded E-9 set-up, SOLD, THANKS

Post by Lonnie Portwood »

I have decided to part with one of my all-time favorite guitars. Ed Fulawka built this guitar for me and originally was a S-12 Universal, with 5 knee levers and 7 pedals. It was made in 1998/99. Later I had Ed add the "Franklin" pedal, and in 2010, after ten years of not getting used to the spacing on the 12 set-up, I had Ed change it back to a 10 string.

Since it had 8 pedals now, I thought, I'd like to keep as much of the B-6 moves as possible, so I conferred with Randy Smith, who I met at Seymour's shop in Nashville, Carl Dixon, David Jackson, Bill Stafford, and several others before arriving at the current set-up. I am sending a chart along with the pictures.

It is a E-9, with No. 1 pedal (franklin), 2,3, and 4 are now the A, B, C pedals. LKL Raises E's, LKV Lowers B's, LKR Raises 1 and 2, RKL lowers E's, RKR lowers 2nd string, RK-Uni lowers 8 and 9 to B and Ab. Changing pulls, etc, is easier than most, bell cranks are slotted to fit over square cross shafts, and has triple raise and triple lower.

This guitar comes with Ed's custom made hard case, and His volume pedal.

Price is $3985 plus shipping, which should be about $70 to Cont US.

To those of you who are familiar with Ed Fulawka's work do not need any sales pitch. For the rest of you, Ed builds one of the very best engineered instruments, with beautiful craftsmanship and finish work as you can see in the pics. There is NO slack or sloppy action, or rattles. When you touch a pedal, a string starts moving, quietly! Also, there is a full warranty on this guitar, as long as Ed is "around and able".

Please take a look, and enjoy! Lonnie

I forgot to point out that Ed machines His nut rollers to fit the string guages so that the top of each string is level with the others. The dark wood is Rosewood and of course the rest is birds eye maple.

I think so too, John. The pics actually don't do justice to the guitar. Thanks for looking. Lonnie

Thanks for the compliment.... I don't mean to side-track the post, but I love sharing stories concerning Ed. I my life I've been very fortunate-- pictured was my "stable" in 2004. However, after many years of touring with PSG, I decided to go for a much more convenient arsenal of instrumentation.. in consultation with Ed lamenting the impending sale of his beauties, he said, "...it doesn't matter what you're playing, as long as you're playing music." Words of wisdom. I spent 3 summers visiting Ed in the summers, and he always put me to work in the shop. Great times the memories of which I truly cherish! His guitars ARE THE BEST, and he's a true Master.

Folks, don't let my description "S-10 Universal" keep yuou from considering this guitar. This is a fully loaded E-9 set up. It just happens to have some additional capabilities should you ever want to experiment with the B-6 "swing and jazz tunings, or you have four extra pedals which can be set up to do "anything" your mind can imagine.

Fulawka steels are "as good as it gets" in design and craftsmanship. This is a one of a kind instrument, and has been played primarily here at home, probably not more than 100 hours since new. Thanks for looking. Lonnie
