Pedal Steel Guitar Tuning App ?

Post by Jeff Sherman »

Hasn't anyone developed a Pedal Steel Guitar App for E9 and C6 to include a option to program your own copedant ?

Im looking for one for my smartphone which is with me at all times and very handy and also one for the music laptop computer. I think this would be much handier than buying a portable hardware one that requires a battery. They have them for bass guitars but not for PSG.

Cleartune will support custom temperaments, available on Android and iPhone.
I forget whether it's 3 or 4 bucks.
I don't know if there's a maximum number of temperaments, mine has 4 of mine in it.
It does have one limitation in that it only allows one value per note: no different C# for different octave
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

+1 for the Cleartune app, accurate, easy to program, you do need an iRig to plug directly into it though.

you don't need an iRig. Peterson sells an adapter for $13. I think Radio Shack sells one too.
Or you can use the mic in the phone

Another +1 for the Cleartune App. I use mine on the iPhone just with the mic. I just place it beside the neck and it seems to work fine. If it was noisy an adapter would be good.

You'll want this adapter to plug into your phone, but Cleartune will run on your android phone.

Yes: all modern phones are set up so that TRRS (although the sleeve is so short that it looks more like TRRR) has mic input at the 2nd ring from the base so that headsets with mics will work. So even though the Petersen adapter only says Apple devices, it works on all mobiles.

With the Cleartune, you can set up different offsets for each temperament: one for pedals up and one for down..... just label them as such. E9 and E9p. For that matter, you can create as many temperaments as you need for each neck.

Pitchlab at the Play Store for Android has one for free with several approaches including Stobe...It even has tempured settings for both E9th and C6th.
