Hi,
I bought myself a 2" lift kit as I'm 6'5. I don't mind the height (could be a touch too high but probably preferable to 1" raise). My problem is now my rods are too long. My pedals are usable but are flat on the floor when engaged - too low!
I wish there were more thread in the standoffs because there's still plenty left on the rods to raise the pedals. I didn't realise the thread didn't go all the way through the standoffs when I bought them.
I guess the obvious option is to cut some of the thread from my rods. I was hoping too avoid anything that's not reversible. Any other suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,
Dave |

Have you tried the shorter rod extenders from a 1" lift kit? |

Not knowing the status of your steels's legs, be aware that if you in any way raised the pedal rack from the end of the leg, (from the floor, that is,) you would be forcing the pedals downward. A spacer, above the pedal rack, to compensate for the lengthening of the leg and to prevent creeping of the rack when you step on the pedal could be indicated.
And additional lengthening of the rear legs (and the forward tilting of the whole steel) could give you some additional floor clearance.
Of course none of this may apply to your situation.... |

You can just go to a good hardware store like Ace or Home Depot and get the spacers in various lengths. I have a 1" lift kit on my guitar, but I needed to raise my zero pedal up and didn't have any more adjustment left. So I just bought a 1/2" or 3/4" (I forget which) threaded spacer and set screw and made my own lift for that pedal rod. works great. If you wanted 1-1/2" lifts (which nobody I have seen is making), you can just buy a 1" spacer and a half inch spacer, a set screw to screw them together to make a 1-1/2" spacer. Don't forget to loc-tite the set screw to the spacers and make the set screw just long enough to be secure, but leave you enough thread. It's a real easy fix. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . David... I'm 6'8" + and have used lift kits, but what I find works better for me is to get longer rods made..there are various sources out there(not expensive)..I know that Jeff Surratt at Sho Pro can get you rods up to 29" long... this makes for a better & stronger setup with less variables than a lift kit in my opinion.. Also... I use clear tubing (5/8 as I recall...Ace Hardware) and cut it to length then slide it up on the front leg extensions after I lock the legs at the correct height, determined by adjusting the longer rods at the "standoffs"... works great and stays put...Looks like Mark does a similar tweek! All good ideas above... Being very tall requires real life adjustments! _________________ https://www.reverbnation.com/bigredandtheresonators |

Hi Guys,
thanks for the useful suggestions! I think I will experiment with making my own lift kit with threaded spacer and set screws. That way I should be able to tweak things to get what I want. I think ideally I would like a 1-1/2" lift. Richard, thanks for the tip about using loctite once I've done all my adjustments.
Maybe I will get some rods made to length once I work out my ideal height.
Below is the current setup with the pedals too low. You can (hopefully) see there is more thread on the rods but no more left is the standoffs.
Cheers

David....Raise the front legs a bit higher than the height you want the pedals to be,lock the legs with the clutch, add the proper length spacers on the leg extensions.....then you can regain some of the thread on the standoffs to do the final tweeking... _________________ https://www.reverbnation.com/bigredandtheresonators |
