just received my new stage one from Doug
having had an older stage one many years ago, I can tell you that I love the improvements .
the pedals are smooth as butter , solid knee lever stops , I also really like the new neck , the legs are pure pro quality ,
it has pro tuners . the craftsmanship is top notch
I like the tone of the guitar, bright but not overly so
for an economy guitar I don't think there is a better one made ...bar none _________________ proud parent of a sailor

John
i'm not sure what your asking but, I get plenty of bass, for me the mid range is dead on.
the trebles are bright but not over bearing
in short I am well pleased with the pick up _________________ proud parent of a sailor

in the past I have owned a few "economy " guitars
and a couple of them were just plain junk
but I can highly recommend the stage one as being totally playable,
in fact I would go so far as to say it plays as well as guitars costing 2-3 times as much _________________ proud parent of a sailor

Well John I decided on the single coil after a long correspondance with many who play the Encore . My one was ordered in mid march and I am just waiting to hear when to send on money . What I hear all the p/u's are excellant and it comes down to personal taste; but a few pros use the single coil. YOURS AYE JAMES TAYLOR |

Thanks, I have an Encore on order, and I'm trying to make the single-coil vs. humbucker decision. |
John, I have the Stage One and it uses the same humbucker as in the Encore. I had plans to eventually go single coil on this steel, but I am digging the Humbucker. I am an old tele player and I always prefer single coils, or so I thought.
The lows are so rich, and getting up on the higher frets on those same low strings, it has that pleasing roundness and note separation that you'd expect from a single coil. There is a fair bit of sting in the high strings, and when you play them on the lower end of the fret range, well all I can think of is "Whiskey bent and Hell Bound"intro , that kind of sound. I may try the single coil later, but so far I am staying with the humbucker. Excellent range of sound. |

I have the Humbucker on my Stage One and it's fine, but I ordered my Encore with a Wallace TT single coil. I love the sound I get from my old Fender 2000 and so I wanted to get something in the ballpark of that. The Stage One has been a workhorse and by far the most reliable steel I've owned. It plays so smoothly and is ergonomically right for me. It's almost maintentance free. I can't wait til I get that Encore! _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |

I think if I ever got the Encore, I'd probably try a TrueTone as well, just for something different. From what I understand its somewhere near the sound of the older Sho-Buds pickups, relatively speaking. Hell, now I might just get one for the Stage 1. Nobody listen to me! I've also heard one can tap the humbucker and get the single coil sound that way, one can even wire a switch to go back and forth. |
