E9 RKL vs RKR

Just curious, which lever is "normally" used the most of the right levers, the RKL 1 & 7 raise, or the RKR 2 & 9 lower?

First, those KL locations are not universal for those changes. Many (including myself) use RKL for the E=>Eb lower, and lots of location permutations exist for the 'standard' KL changes.

Second, regardless of location, different players often use changes quite differently. I don't even have a 1/7 raise on my guitars, so I definitely use the 2/9 lower much more. I consider the latter one of the 'essential' E9 changes, but generally prefer to lower 6 (on LKR) rather than raise 7.

To me, it's whatever works for the music one is doing and, to some extent, whatever one gets used to - although that can be changed with a little effort.

I second what Dave said. I have E-Eb lower on RKL, 2/9 lower on RKR. 1/7 semitone raise on LKR and E-F on LKL. I also have 6 a hole tone lower on a vertical. and for a one song, I use them all! phew.

A lot of players have the "E" changes on the left knee. There is NO standard for knee lever placement, like there is (well, 2 - Emmons and Day) for pedal placement.

I had my E's on the right side for 35 years or so (rkl raise, rkr lower). I switched them to the left side about a year ago. I find that, for me the left side is better. My ankles are pretty flexible, considering their age, and I have no issues with pedal lever combinations. I also moved the 2nd and 9th string lowers to rkr which for me is an improvement. It took a lot of playing time to adjust. It really is what works best for you. Pick 1 and if you don't like it after awhile switch them around.

I bet you don't use them all at once! My U12 has the (equivalent of) 2 & 9 lower on LKL, 1 & 7 raise on LKR, and E's lower on RKL, raise on RKR. All this so I can "peg" the E's to Eb with my right leg/foot while playing the B6 stuff. Funny perhaps, but it makes sense to me enough to re-learn when I transferred from my more conventional 10 string E9 guitar.

I can't see a lot of use for it there. I've never raised an E to F# on C6, and only once or twice have I ever wished I did.

I use it a bit..

It makes the 6th chord you get using C6 pedal 7 into a maj7 chord.

also if you press pedal 7 and lower the B string while raising your Es you get a nice 13th (or #9) chord

On the 2 universals I use, I use RKR to lower my E's and RKL to raise them. Keeps things clear to use pedals 4..5..6..7 when switching to B6th mode, with my E's on the right Very Happy
