Last night I went to a club to see a guitar player friend of mine and they had a steel player in the band to my surprise. I thought he was playing a S-10. On break time my friend introduced me to him. His name was Grady Hutto. He's an older fellow and played pretty tasteful and clean. From the club view, his guitar only had 3 pedal rods on it so that's why I thought it was a single neck. Grady asked me to sit in so I did the next set. I was surprised to find that the inside neck had an E6th which was just like a C6th only 4 frets higher. It had no pedals but I found myself going to it for rock and swing things we did in my set. I'd never played that tuning but I didn't have any trouble with it at all. I play a 12 string and the lack of the bottom two strings was a little unnerving on the E9th but all in all it wasn't bad. Has anyone tried this tuning or use it now? I think that if I played a D-10 that might be the way to go for me.........JH

Jerry-Alvino Rey used the E6 tuning on his non pedal Gibson Grand Console.
Then he used it as his base tuning on his Gibson Electra-Harp.
Basically it was like a C6 tuning of today only as you say 4 frets higher in tone.
That is a plus as it is brighter Like E9 and also the same bar positions as E9 so there is no confusion about Keys and chord positions.
Use the F# on the 1st string like the D on the 1st string of C6.
The F# on E6 is just the same F# on E9. Email me for more info and detail.
