Jean Stapleton

Post by Gary Schlotterbeck »

For many years Jean and her husband Bill Putch owned the Totem Pole Playhouse located near Fayettville Pennsylvania in the Caledonia State Park. (about halfway between Chambersburg and Gettysburg) It was summer stock theater and many stars from Hollyweird would come and do plays there with young actors just learning their trade. I can't remember his name, but a fine straight steel player performed there as part of the "South Pacific" cast one summer in the late 1960's or early 1970's. He played a six string Gibson BR-6.
Jean was often seen in Chambersburg and Gettysburg and was very approachable, and more of a down home person than most people I've met from Hollyweird. A great lady, and her husband Bill Putch was also a great person when I lived back near there.

I just read where she had passed away. She made many of us laugh for years. In real life, any woman who put up with Archie should be considered a saint.
