Dickie,
Thank you for asking. Presently waiting for the Li'l Izzy photos. In the mean time, here's one of an original Izzy Plus.

Same package and dimensions as Li'l Izzy.

Again, thank you for your interest.
Best regards,
Craig Baker

Certainly Dickie. By the way, the new Li'l Izzy is powder coated all one color, space blue, rather than the previous two-tone paint scheme shown in the photo above.

Shown, is an original Li'l Izzy from 1977, with the two-color paint scheme used at the time. The new generation of Li'l Izzy is all blue

When steeler Gary Morse (Highway 101; Brooks & Dunn) lived in Los Angeles, he borrowed my L'il Izzy and I somehow never got it back. Guess I'd better nag him for a return...it's only been a 30-year or so loan!

Craig, how does the Izzy sound compared to the Goodrich Matchbox 7A? Are they different in what they do and how?

My Izzy Plus is from around 1978 or so. I added a hole to be able to adjust the boost without removing the cover, and I sprayed it metallic gray because I couldn't stand the color scheme.

Still works fine! No boost needed with steel, a bit of added power is sometimes good for regular electric guitars – on the very rare occasions when I want a bit of distortion.

Per, I'd done that to mine. When I had my Session 500, my fuzz of choice was to dime the Izzy Plus, saturating the snot out of the input. Liked it better than the Boss Tone.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Craig, I used the Little Izzy many years ago. Everyone was. I looked for it everywhere and couldn't find it.

After receiving my new one I plugged it in last night while practicing and was surprised once again.

The very first thing I noticed was how it cleaned up the mud in the lower frequencies greatly improving string separation when playing chords or single note solos.

It did add a tad bit of highs to the plain strings. So, after rolling just a little of the highs off my parametric EQ I had the plain strings exactly where I wanted them and the wound strings exactly where I wanted them.

One question. Why did you ever stop making this thing?

I'm a user again!

Sid,
Thank you for your kind praise of Li'l Izzy. I am delighted that you are enjoying the sound it provides. When Li'l Izzy was introduced, back in 1977, it was the only pure buffer available. We were alone in the marketplace and especially so, since it was designed specifically for the steel guitar. There's no question that when it comes to tone, steel guitarists are far more discriminating than many other musicians. We were fortunate to have endorsements from most of the top players in Nashville and over the years, many people purchased the units.

Back around 1979 or 1980, Guitar Player magazine did a short article covering Li'l Izzy. That was a double-edged sword for us. Of course we loved the coverage, but it wasn't long until several buffers appeared, from much larger organizations. Even so, Li'l Izzy is still the only buffer we know of, that plugs directly into the guitar, where the most benefit is realized.

Today however, it's a new "ballgame" For the most part, the amplifiers and speakers are far superior to those of the late 70s. The guitars are precision instruments, and The Steel Guitar Forum is here today providing information on every subject that touches the steel guitar community. However, one doesn't have to read far to realize that the Forum is filled with posts from a new generation of steel guitar players who have invested their time and their hard-earned money and they're still not happy with their sound. So, that's why we're back. It just made sense to plug in the soldering iron. . . one more time.

Thank you again Sid, and all the others who have said nice things about Li'l Izzy.

Respectfully,

Craig Baker

Let me chime in on this topic. In the 1980's I bought an Izzy Plus at the ISGC. I wore it out a few years later and never had that sound again. I am so pleased to see Mr. Baker is making the product again. I will be ordering another one ASAP.

I got mine a couple of months ago and couldnt be happier. Somehow I lost the two I bought years ago and have missed them ever since. As everyone has said, the mids and lows clean up and chimes ring much better. Thanks again, Craig!
