For years I've been playing a brass-plated Rickenbacker lap-steel, 6-strings. I have several metal Ricks and this is the same basic design, with volume, tone and jack all on the same side and the strings anchoring in slot/holes cut into the body. It doesn't have the super wide old pickup, so I'm guessing 1940s. The brass-plating seems original to me, scratched and nicked all over. I've had it for twenty years. For certain stuff it's a favorite of mine, acoustic-sounding but plenty gritty. It did not come with the Rick screw-on peghead tag, though two untapped holes were there, which makes me think it was made by Rick for another seller. I've since attached a tag that was on my old Rick amp. I'll take a pic if anyone wants it. Has anyone seen one before?

I don't believe it's an SD-6. I also have an SD-6. That has the integrated pickup mount/string anchor and is a somewhat more expensive instrument. The SD-6, as I know it, is enameled, not plated. This brass-plated instrument seems a little more on the student end and the strings anchor into the body itself. I'll take a picture today and post. The first pic is of my brass-plated Rick. The second is my SD-6. Neither the knobs nor the Rick label are original on the brass one.

I see ...
I had a guy send me an NS that someone had painted ( over the original gray) ... When I stripped off the added paint ... And put it on the buffer with a sisal wheel ... It pulled all the stuff off and left a body very similar to your steel ...

Yes, Rick, that does help. I looked at pics of NS steels and this certainly is one. Perhaps they just sent some out unpainted with only this thin brass plating. Many thanks,
