Les Paul laid back West Coast sustained sound

Hi guys,
A bit off topic I know.Does anyone know how to setup a guitar (standard 6 string electric guitar to get that sort of laid back, sustained, West Coast sort of sound.Any suggestions advice would be very welcome.

My lap steel has this sound when played through my home stereo and headphones.
