S8 Lap Steel

Post by Al Carey »

I'd like an S8 lap, mainly for practice on the porch, as I want to focus on pedal steel. I'm looking at the Morell for $300. Should i do it, or does someone have something better at a similar price?

You missed the S8 I just had for sale for $300. I am working on an ultra-minimalist, lightweight plank for that kind of "porch pickin'". It will have your choice of 6-10 strings and I will probably sell it for $150 or so. Unfortunately I can't give you any kind of firm date at this point. The only thing I have heard about the Morrell 8 stringers is that the lipstick pickup is not really wide enough to pick up the strings at the edges, so you have volume drop-off on strings 1 and 8.

I'm definitely interested- I looked at your Facebook page, the Straight Eight looks very cool!

Is your name pronounced "EYE-stin"?

I have a pickup from a Sho-Bud Maverick, could you build around that?

8 string

I have an 8 string Boen that I rebuilt. I had a price of $495, but would take $300 without case or legs, plus shipping
