I have an old BR9 - well worn but all original, with a great sounding pickup.

The only thing is that the volume and tone knobs are very dark brown (almost black) instead of the more normal cream. Suprisingly, they are exactly the right style though.

I have only ever seen one picture of another BR9 with the brown/black knobs and am suspecting these aren't original.

If anyone can confirm this (or otherwise) I'd be grateful.

I'm assuming Gibson would have used radio knobs but can't find any of this style anywere (even in pictures) apart from on other BR9's.

According to A. R. Duchossoir in his great book "Gibson Electric Steel Guitars" the BR-9 was always equipped with the creame colored No.481 knob but the identical Kalamazoo model KEH lap steel had the same knob but molded in brown. It is always possible that the knobs on your steel were swapped previously or that Gibson did indeed "mix and match" occasionally, since the KEH was, of course, made in the Gibson plant. Anomalies are abundant amongst all brands, and Gibson is definately no exception.
