Repair advice needed - See pictures

Post by Scott Walker »

Hey! So..my 2010 Emmons "B" pedal stopper thing just farted out. As I was playing I felt my pedal/rod just sink in further than normal, so apearantly it just sank into the cloth covered particle board. (???Serious) Any repair advice for this? Maybe ill just replace the whole board?

Wow Scott that is a bad change.
I have a 2001 LeGrande II and the plate on the inside of the front apron is made on Steel I just checked mine with a magnet.
Best repair would be a 1/4 thick X 1 1/4 wide Steel plate. Would be easy enough to replace, drill the holes in the steel plate.
Sorry they must have changed something that was working good.

For a quick repair (not permanent fix), I'd get a strip of Velcro hook, put a dime in the middle of it, dime over the notch, hooks grabbing the flocking.
I'd contemplate either replacing the particle board strip with metal, or just facing the working surface with metal: even 20ga would probably prove stout enough
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

If it were me I'd get a pc. of alum. flat stock ,drill a few mounting holes for screws & attach it to the existing brd. That's a piss poor way to build a pedal stop.Shame on Emmons.

Get in touch with Ron Jr, Billy Knowles or Lynn Stafford.

Yeah, you need a reinforcement piece there. Maybe if you can find a strip of delrin or nylon say, 1/8" or so thick for the entire board, you might get less noise than metal.

Then of course, you'd have to re-set all your pedal stops.

[You should probably close up that notch flush first. A hardwood hole plug or piece of dowel can probably be formed to fit.]

Hopefully some other Emmons owners/techs who have dealt with the same issue can offer proper help.

Stop bar

Post by Doug Palmer »

I agree. The stop bar should be metal. It is still under warranty so send it to Lynn or Billy and see if they will replace the cheaper wooden one with metal. The problem will eventually happen to all of your pedals if you don't fix it. Very serious.

Thanks!! I did put a thin "L" bracket (razor blade folded in half) and it worked fine, but I had to retune and adjust everything and I really need the right fix. The flat bar is the way to go I think. To be honest, I was surprised to see that this was made out of wood. Thanks for the name drops, ill look into them for possible repair, I appreciate it!!

Edit- Its the regular SD-10 , made in 2010 4 pedal/5 lever.

Im not sure what kind of board it is actually, but some kind of wood. I talked with Ron today and he said they have been doing this for the last 10 years or so, they used to use aluminum or steel.
