It's been very interesting seeing so many threads recently that are dipping their toes into some non traditional genres and niches for the pedal steel. They've been very fun to read.
Also really enjoy some of the stuff that you all have added to the thread since I last visited, Daniel and Christopher... great stuff.
I actually found a copy of BJ coles first transparent music album at the record store last week. Sounds great. Makes me think I should work on recording a similar sort of solo pedal steel album.
anyway I found this one recently.

And I enjoyed the playing with Patterson Hood

And I started a thread when My band Tower posted some new demos, but I'll add the link here cause I think most people missed it. and the people who would be most interested would be likly to visit this thread anyway. Enjoy.

Wow, Christopher, that's astonishing... if you were anywhere near sight-reading that, I might as well switch back to my first instrument, slide whistle (I had it goin' on when I was 4 or 5...) And where did Pedal Steel Transmission ever come from? Does anybody know any of them? (Bryan d'Ouville, Donal Ogilvie, Gary Pyskacek, Daniel Schneider). Meanwhile, there are only TWO threads about "the death of the steel guitar" posted in the "Searching my own intestines - hey it's dark in here!" dept.

David, I had a few e-mails with Gary.

Very interesting stuff!
As always, nice searching, Justin! Speaking of old BJ albums, I bought the first Cochise album when it was new. A few years ago, I wrote BJ and mentioned that fact. He was surprised - you DO go back a ways, he said!

No, reports of the death of pedal steel are greatly exaggerated!

Ah, weren't those the days, Joachim...
And Justin, with (a slightly early) retirement planned for next year, Lord willin', I hope to be able to devote more time to music, and would also like to develop some pieces for a recording. (One of my bands, INTRA, will be recording in January, and I'll try to post something here).

Many people on SGF know about it already, but for those that don't, forumite Bob Hoffnar did amazing work with the band Hem (tons of it on YouTube), that was around for several years and achieved reasonably good success, I understand (I think a major corporation used their music in a TV commercial). All of the steel work on Hem's recordings is Bob's. Go, Bob!

Jackie Lomax from 1972. I'm guessing it's Red Rhodes (with members of the Band). The steel is not dominant but pretty:

Holy cow. I need to get out more. I honestly thought I was the only person in the world who thought playing Beethoven's Sixth on a steel guitar was a good idea. And these guys kill it. A very large percentage of the greatest steel guitarists in the world aren't here posting on the forum - easy to forget. I wonder what they do all day?Don't forget Chris Combs with the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey.

I've been playing some reggae music lately. Not a typical genre for steel guitar.

Justin, it is indeed something I look forward to - when I see additions here. Not sure about steel on that particular Desert Sessions tune, but there is on this one (all according to discogs.com):

So, some lap steel is the order of the day.

Mt apologies for the roughness of this but I feel like posting a video of a recent concert of a band I am working with. We are in early stages - writing and working arrangements out etc. I will most likely minimize my parts a great deal. The person who did the recording stood too close to my amp so you get to hear too much steel including a whole lot of mistakes but here 'tis.

The band's name - Master Musicians of Bukkake (take off of Jajouka) - and their attire tell you not to take them seriously, but they do actually use (lap) steel in a strange context:
