Thanks David... I took the precaution of adding a third 'mercy'.

I love that tune, and I love what Mike Neer did with it. He's such a consummate artist. By the way, over the years I've been told by some people that Cannonball wrote that song, and other has attributed it to Joe Zawinul. Which is it?

I watched the YT video of Cannonball live... he says it's Zawinul's. He was the creative force behind Weather Report, for those not recognizing the name... perhaps you've heard 'Birdland', another of his tunes.

Josef Zawinul, one of my favorite musicians, wrote it. He wrote a lot of great tunes. He was also incredibly soulful. Listen he how works up the crowd with his tune Country Preacher:

Thank you! One of my favorite tunes, and well done!
My senior year in high school, I was allowed to arrange Mercy for our 20 piece orchestra, which included famous jazz keyboardist James Williams.
Love me some Zawinul. I also got to see the Cannonball Adderly Quintet perform this later at the 1969 Memphis Jazz Festival.
Great job Mike, Carco, and all.

Oops - I mistakenly called this one Work Song in the other thread...yes, it was Mercy, Mercy. It's been 2 decades since I've heard either - I need to get out some old LPs!
Work Song would make a good steel tune though.... hint
