The Sho-Pro Steel CD w/Tommy White, and Eddy Dunlap. And I can't get enough of Dave Grusin's "Mountain Dance" live! I still like to try and pick w/Vern Gosdin, Desert Rose Band, and Dwight w/Tom Brumley. "Set'em Up Joe" and "I Sang Dixie" keep me stumped.

Some great responses! Many are well known rather than obscure.

I still go to the gym and work out and have found there is only a select few albums that I'll listen to on my iPod. One of my all time favorites should be familiar to the 6 string guitars players, Robben Ford's "Talk To Your Daughter". I find that I exercise much harder while listening to this. For me this is blues guitar at it's best.

As for what I'm doing career wise? Nothing at the moment. Lee Ann has pretty much quit the business. She's tired of fighting with the label for what she believes in. She's home schooling her youngest daughter and says she's really enjoying being a "stay at home" mom. So... the rides over. It was fun while it lasted.

Musically I'm just practicing on things at the house that interest me, which is continue to learn songs that are new to me, and of course try to better my understanding of theory.

Danni Leigh-A Shot Of Whiskey & A Prayer featuring Steve Hinson on steel. Both Danni's vocals and Steve's steel work are awesome on that record. I think Pete Anderson, Dwight Yoakam's former guitar player did guitar parts on that record. Steve does a great steel solo on Danni's song "Back In Your Arms Again". Steve also did great steel work on Danni's song "Honey I Do" too-it was written by Stacy Dean Campbell

Pls know that I love all the old trad country music and also the new uses that are being explored by players of today. But do you know of a recording of Native American flute and steel. Somehow I think it will fit, but don't know the pentatonic patterns well enough to get a workable idea going. Any suggestions?

Randy, since this is the first time I've posted directly to you let me say, over the years I've been truly inspired by your playing. Thank you.

Since you're listening to and enjoying Robben Ford's blues playing, you might know that, at 18 years of age, he was a sideman on a 1973 album titled Takin' My Time, by legendary blues harpist Charlie Musselwhite. Here's a cut from that album called Finger Lickin' Good" Robben does some tasty backup work

Hey Glen, when I went to listen to the cut from Robben's first album, I looked to the side column and there is a 1 1/2 hour lesson from Robben on his approach to playing the blues. Now this is what I was hoping to accomplish in this thread! Guess what I'll be doing over the weekend...

As a guitar player musicians is normally what I listen to until I discovered this young lady a couple of years ago.

I learned that she lived not very far from where I live now.

I was devastated when I learned that at a much too early age she passed away as a result of cancer.

Her ability to alter melodies and phrasing while infusing a rare gift of soul puts cold chills on my arms when I hear her sing.
